Compact, easy to use and accurate
Works as described. Not a super-fast read, but fast enough. I have used this so far only for meat, but see no reason why it would not work well for temperature testing baked goods.

Good meat thermometer
This is my 4th one. 2 got dropped too many times. One given as a gift, and then this one. It’s fast, it’s accurate, and the price is great. I use it for determining meat temperature, so I don’t need to be super precise. I don’t care if it’s .5 degree over 165, just need to know if it’s 165. I use it pretty much daily, but I don’t require extreme accuracy.

Works so good I bought two more…..
This review is a combined review for the PT12 model and the Pro, I purchases the PT12 back in 2015 because I wanted a accurate instant read thermometer but based on my use case I couldn’t bring myself to spend the $100 on a Thermoworks (although I thought long about it…). This seemed like a good substitute for the price point so I went with it. I’m glad I did, as it quickly out performed the CDN device that I was using, as well as other thermometer gadgets around the house. After making sure that it was accurate (boiling water test) I found it to be much faster than those other devices, and more accurate, taking anywhere from 3-5 seconds to come within a degree or two of the food temp, and then another 5 seconds or so to to level out at the final temp. Not really instant, but good enough for my uses. And once the probe/sensor is “warmed up” (meaning its not starting from 60 degrees) subsequent checks go much faster (like when you’re moving from burger to burger or steak to steak on the grill). The small size made it perfect for having in a pocket and the built in magnet makes it easy to store on the fridge or side of the grill. Overall I was so happy with this that I purchased a second one (one to keep by the grills, one for the kitchen), and was equally satisfied with that purchase. So much so, that when the original went missing for several months (it eventually turned up) I went to purchase a third one. By this point Lavatools had introduced their Pro model, so I went with that one. Again, happy I did, as this model was a worthwhile upgrade to the PT12’s. Much faster return on food temps, providing a temp within 2 seconds and leveling out at 5. Much closer to what I would expect an instant read to perform. The large display, backlight and longer probe are great additions. It’s certainly much beefier feeling than its little brother, but not so that its cumbersome or clumsy to use.All in all I’m very pleased by these purchases and would highly recommend them for the products that they are, in this price point. And, of course, the Amazon experience in researching, purchasing and delivery of these was also great

Sturdy, speedy, satisfying!
I bought the Sesame-colored thermometer in September 2018 (for $25) and only started using it since Spring 2023, but it still holds up today (over five years later)! Now I use it almost daily for indoor grilling and it does the job; as soon as the probe is out the display starts moving and then reflects the surrounding temperature in 2-3 seconds and has never blinked or gone out. It has also been reliable and trusty; I have cooked my food down to even the minimum safe recommended temperature and luckily (assuming all else is equal) have never felt ill from my food or as if it was undercooked, making this thermometer reasonably accurate in my opinion. It also sticks well to the refrigerator/freezer and my steel silverware and is otherwise sturdy; sometimes I swing and thrust it about like a rapier and the probe and housing remain perfectly functional and intact. Granted it may not last as long as the advertised 4000+-hour battery life due to disuse, I only use it for about five minutes a day, and the messiest it has gotten was having tiny grease spots on the display, it currently shows no signs of slowing down and I trust it will continue to work well for quite some time to come. Overall I give the “Lavatools PT12 Javelin Ultra Fast Digital Instant Read Meat Thermometer for Grill and Cooking, 2.75″ Probe, Compact Foldable Design, Large Display, Splash Resistant – Sesame” a respectable 4/5 stars!

Works remarkably well.
It really is instant read, one or 2 seconds, and is 100% accurate.

Best Thermometer I’ve Owned
Must have in the kitchen. Use while grilling and is very fast at reading temperature. It is magnetic so can stick to refrigerator or grill.

Excellent design! Works fast! IP65 water protection!
After going through two failed AcuRite thermometers in the past few years, I decided to try something new—and I’m really glad I stumbled on this one. The first thing I love about it is that it has no buttons. It turns on when the thermometer is extended and turns off when it is closed. It seems like a no-brainer design now that I’ve used it, but I’ve been used to using a totally unnecessary on/off button. Second, the Fahrenheit/Celsius button is locked away in the battery compartment where it can’t be accidentally triggered. Unless you have a need to quickly switch between the two, this is yet one less button to accidentally press. The two things I like most about this is how fast this thermometer is. The first time I used it, I couldn’t believe how much faster it was than the AcuRite I’ve been using. Second, it has IP65 water resistance—which is *so* great for making sure I don’t ruin the thing with a splash of water or cleaning (which I did with at least one previous thermometer).

I bought this so I could check the internal temperature when cooking a lot of mixed food items on the bbq. I normally use a Meater probe which is brilliant for large single pieces of meat that require a longer cook. This is great for when you have lots of different items on the bbq. The advantage of the Javelin is that you can quickly jump between burgers, steaks, sausages, and anything else you happen to be cooking. The response time is fairly quick and the build quality seems good. The temperature reading can be toggled between Fahrenheit and Celsius by changing the tiny switch in the battery compartment. I’ve used cheaper meat thermometers but I think this hits the sweet spot with a good combination of quality and value.

Not “instant”, but then none really are. It takes 2-3 seconds to give a stable reading, but it is consistent and faster response than any that I have used previously. Easy to use and read the display. Probe folds out to turn on and in to turn it off. I like the internal magnet to hold it in place on steel surfaces. It works great on the side of the stove or barbeque. I have already recommended this to several other people.

It’s very sensitive to small changes in temperature. Very useful! It’s also very compact.
Coco66 –
A compact and effective digital thermometer. I use to make candy and it seems to be an accurate measure of temperature. I appreciate the magnetic element that allows it to be stored handily on the fridge.
